An In-Depth Look at the Disassembly Process of a Rock Crusher

50 x 65 Gyratory Main Shaft Removal

Removing the mantle off this gyratory shaft proved to be no easy task.  Luckily, the customer reached out to Marion Machine where we put our 800-ton press to work. Our press can also remove broken or stuck shafts, from heads and frames. After a shaft is removed, the team inspects the part to pinpoint the problem areas that need repair.  Our unique press capabilities allow us to take on jobs that can’t be handled using conventional methods of disassembly.

Pitman Shaft Dye Checks (Sandvik QJ241 Track Plant)

For this disassembly, we removed the pitman from the track unit. We then pulled the shaft from the pitman and performed a dye penetrant test.  This test checks for cracks or breaks in the shaft to determine if a replacement shaft is warranted.  This particular pitman was pulled out of a mobile crushing plant, as Marion Machine has the capabilities to work on crushers and track equipment alike.

Disassembled 42 x 65 Counterbox

For this 42×65 Counter box disassembly, we had to first remove the pinion shaft and pinion gear and check to make sure the shaft was straight before inspecting the bores and fits.  These thorough inspections by our expert team is crucial to make sure our repairs are effective.  At Marion Machine, we have the unique ability to repair counter boxes made of either cast iron or steel.

66” Gyradisc Head with shaft removed

This 66” Gyradisc shaft was stuck in the head and conventional methods of removal had proven  unsuccessful.  Using our 800-ton press, we were able to disassemble with ease so that this crusher could get on the road to a full repair!
