Machinist

Job Scope:

Controlling and operating machines and equipment to manufacture parts for the company.  Includes milling and boring steel for parts.  Operate machinery safely and efficiently while meeting production deadlines.

Essential Duties:

  • Drill and machine parts for aggregate equipment
  • Set up machinery and parts as specified
  • Read blueprints
  • Operation of CNC machinery
  • Maintain a chain of communication with co-workers, supervisors, and other departments
  • Use of hand tools and precision measuring tools like micrometers and calipers
  • Treat shop tools and equipment with care

Secondary Duties:

  • Keep work area clean
  • Maintain an overall safe work environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Understanding of trigonometry
  • Knowledge of CNC programming

Education Requirements:

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent years of experience

Experience Requirements:

CNC programming experience preferred

Individuals must be prepared for:

Reaching – 50% of shift

Bending – 15% of shift

Pushing – 10% of shift

Pulling – 10% of shift

Climbing – 10% of shift

Sitting – 35% of shift

Overhead work – 0% of shift

Standing – 50% of shift

Walking – 20% of shift

Lifting to 50 pounds – 10% of shift

Work Environment:

Work takes place in a manufacturing shop.  The volume in the shop is loud.  Individuals may be exposed to fumes and chemical exposure such as coolant mist and cutting oil smoke.  Individuals must be prepared to work in either hot or cold temperatures.

Career Ladder:

This position could lead to advancement to a Lead Machinist position.
