Field Machinist

Job Scope:

The Field Machinist plays a critical role in the oil and gas extraction and mining industries by ensuring that all machinery and equipment are functioning optimally in the field. This position involves the setup, maintenance, and repair of various types of heavy machinery, which is essential for the efficient operation of extraction processes. The Field Machinist will work closely with engineers and other technicians to troubleshoot issues and implement solutions that enhance productivity and safety. Additionally, this role requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to work in diverse and challenging environments. Ultimately, the Field Machinist contributes to the overall success of projects by minimizing downtime and ensuring that operations run smoothly and safely.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a machinist or in a similar role within the oil and gas or mining industries.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and machining processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical certification in machining or a related field.
  • Experience with CNC machinery and programming.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in the oil and gas or mining sectors.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform on-site machining operations, including setup, calibration, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues in heavy machinery and equipment used in oil and gas extraction and mining.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and implement effective solutions for machinery performance improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Provide training and support to junior machinists and field personnel on best practices and safety protocols.

Skills:

The required skills for this position include a strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate and maintain complex machinery. Daily work will involve using problem-solving skills to diagnose issues and implement effective repairs, ensuring that equipment is always in optimal working condition. Preferred skills, such as CNC programming, will enhance the machinist’s ability to perform precise machining tasks, contributing to higher efficiency and accuracy. Attention to detail is crucial, as the machinist must adhere to safety standards and maintain thorough documentation of all work performed. Additionally, strong communication skills will facilitate collaboration with team members and ensure that all safety protocols are understood and followed.
